Oh god, it's back. A part of me really, truly hopes this will fail once more just to keep the ball rolling.

Well i expect it to suck. Working 12 years on it without even coming close to publish it shows how bad the overall quality of the game has to be. Don't know if Gearbox can undo 3DRealms mischief.

No it is not. They have changed the engine at least 3 times. The developers themself said that they have fucked it up.
12 years and no result is equal to incompetence.

You really think they were like "Oh goosh this is good but we can do even better! we just need more time" or were they more like "Jesus this is crap. we have to redo it AGAIN"

12 years and 5-8 hours of gameplay? No my logic is not flawed.

This game will be mediocre at best, heed my words.

One of the devs claimed that it was a premeditated conspiracy. I am probably recalling wrong but I think it had to do with simply promoting game engines. Regardless of whether it will be good or not I have no idea. What I do recall though is that originally there was never any real intent to actually release the game. Marphy might know what I'm rambling on about.

Implying that because one company spent a large amount of time developing a product means that a different company who begins work on the same product will automatically produce inferior quality work is stupid

I didn't say that. All I said that I am not sure if Gearbox will be actually able to deliver a good game because they have to work with what 3DRealms has created.

Gearbox is a great developer and will be able to deal with whatever is thrown at them. They made Borderlands and the Half Life expansions; we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

From the few minutes of blurry-cam footage I saw from a PAX stream, it still looks pretty brown and dreary, but I'm with Joest. Gearbox has a fairly good track record and with some effort should be able to make something at least worth playing.

This.

Also it's Duke Fucking Nukem. It's pretty hard to screw up. Give the player lots of wacky guns, point them at some space aliens and let them go wild. Throw in some hot babes here and there. Done.

I think you're taking the whole serial killer thing way to far.

I stand by it too, as you cannot discount designing games for a modern world and part of that world is consoles where the bulk of the sales can be. And on those consoles you have a controller. We tried for a long time to support lots of guns but we simply could not find a nice way to map it to a controller, despite trying 4-5 designs. We gave it enough time and decided to stop swimming against the current and adopt what was basically the "standard".

It's not 1996 anymore."
