What the hell? There's plenty of music in the demo.

Anyway, the demo is quite fun. I'm glad to see the iconic puzzle elements of Duke are in full effect, and there's still plenty of interactivity and those other little details hidden around if you care to search for them. Overall, not revolutionary, but considering the massive droves of super serious modern war shooters today, it stands alone (and, in my opinion, succeeds) as a classic throwback FPS that's honestly a lot more engaging than most FPS games today. I eagerly await the final product.

Guessing its just me then, for some reason I heard nothing in the demo except my gunfire, some explosions and enemies.

Kiwi's a bit hesitant. The demo didn't really show off how large battles would turn out. The fights in the demo felt pretty tame.

None of the weapons felt particularly powerful and the AI seemed quite dumb. However, the demo was fun and it was a nice change from super dark and edgy modern games about EMPs.

I see Mr. Anime has posted. Well, I guess this would be appropriate to post then for you:

For the rest of us cool cats, however, have something superior:

I played the demo yesterday.  It honestly seemed so bland.  Regenerating health and the whole two weapon system just aren't fit for Duke Nukem.

But only the 360 and PS3 ports. Pre-release console leaks seem to be the norm these days. And they say PC piracy is the real problem here! m-style

Edit: And if you're interested in Duke Nukem Forever history, former 3DR employee Charlie Wiederhold has given a detailed outline of what parts of the 2001 E3 trailer were real and not real:

Soooooooooo the game is out and I just played two hours. A quick review of my first impressions.
The game is fun and funny. There is, as expected, lots of action going on.
Nothing new gameplay wise but still a lot of fun, because of the many small details that are in the world.
The controls sometimes feel a little bit odd, you'll notice that this game was also made with a gamepad in mind. However you can seamlessly switch from Keyboard to Gamepade and back so I'm playing all the ego-scenes with keyboard and mouse and as soon as I'm behind the wheel of something I'll switch to my 360 controller.

Only then did the elves begin to suspect that the dwarves were not bringing any Amontillado.

You missed out that the first 40 odd minutes you engage about 50 enemies. The rest is linear scripted puzzles.

Truly spoken like a man who has never played a Duke Nukem game before in his life. Puzzle solving has always an integral factor in the Duke Nukem series, especially Duke Nukem 3D. If you think DN3D was just about gunning down hundreds of monsters from point A to point B every level, then that goes to show how remarkably little you understand the games. I killed exactly one enemy in my first forty minutes of Duke Nukem Forever and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Anyway, I just completed the singleplayer campaign of DNF and, not big surprise, it's a very fun game. Without trying to complete it too fast or too slow, I ended up clocking in close to 8 hours of gameplay, and I honestly already feel ready for another playthrough to catch more of the little details (of which there are plenty). I haven't tried the multiplayer yet which unfortunately doesn't look too good, but it could be amusing few a short while.

Most of DN3D's puzzles were 'go elsewhere and flip this switch', though.

then that goes to show how remarkably little you understand the games.
If you want simple switch hunting gameplay, you may as well bring up the main competitor at the time: Quake. As undeniably great as it is, Quake is no thinking man's game. Far more is expected of you in Duke, whether it's solving logic puzzles, knowing to utilize cranes, knowing when to shrink yourself, knowing the answer to life, the universe, and everything, and more, and that's just the puzzles you had to solve. Some of the secrets are truly cryptic, but often the clues are there for you to piece together. Duke always made you think about its environment that, while primitive in its implementation, really did resemble real world locales that could be interacted with accordingly. Even the official expansion packs (Life's a Beach, Nuclear Winter, Duke It Out In D.C.) followed suit. Duke Nukem Forever continues this trend with puzzles far more elaborate than possible for, and that's just what you should have come to expect.

As of a few hours ago, it's now official. We live in a world where Duke Nukem Forever exists and is available to all. Just reflect on that for a moment. Say what you want about the game, but I think we can all agree on one thing: at least it beat those Black Mesa: Source bastards!

I loved the incredibly direct reference to Halo, and am surprised they could get away with what they did.

Also, I lol'd at the ending. When the helicopter started spinning from the nuke, I thought, 'Hey, this is like Modern Warfare'. Then the EDF logo came up and the NUKEM, DUKE: KIA and I burst out laughing.

I felt like I was watching a History Channel program at 1AM. Was that video supposed to be funny?
