I have not seen them digging today much, but once I know something new or have a picture where you can actually see what they are digging (their current digging position does not allow for pictures as it's right inside the metal case) I'll certainly post it.

I think about 21 ants + queen arrived. I can't say how many there are at the moment but on one of the latest pictures, one can at least see 10 cocoons so this means the colony is growing fast. (it takes about 15 days to hatch from those)

Here are some new pictures from their lunch yesterday












Once they pulled it out of the feeding dish they started taking it apart. The next time I checked, only the feet remained there. They brought the rest of the insect inside the tube

Are there any soldier ants? Or do they sense there is no immediate thread and don't breed any?

Lasis Niger does not have any soldier ants, only queens, workers and males

Small update without any pictures:

The ants have not shown much activity recently. We are not sure why they do so. They still come out to fetch insects and there are many many cocoons inside the tube, but digging apparently has ceased (or we can't see them doing it).
