I should have clarified a few things first but am greatful for the help.  I am trying to set up a zombie server and when I intall everything and run the srcds.exe I get the error "The procedure entry point GetCVarIF could not be located in the dynamic link library vstdlib.dll".  That is why I think is is not made for the hl2dm (half life 2 deathmatch Orangebox Version) for server setup.

Instead of putting "hl2mp" in the HLDSUpdate tool, use "episode1".

Alright! It worked and the only thing I need to know is what I am doing wrong with it  showing up on the public server list.  It shows in my lan but not public and I do know how to portforward my ports as I have another server running hl2dm.  FYI i forwarded the port to port 27016 as my hl2dm server is on 27015.  Any suggestions?  And "Thanks so much, Devil Mudger!"

P.S. Any help appreciated.

They are at least four threads for that problem already. Just go back to the servers section and move your eyes down the page slightly.

Here's a quick guide for those wanting to update/install a ZM1 server (or just any Source 2006 mod server, really) with SteamCMD:

Download SteamCMD, open it and wait for it to update itself. After that, type this:
Code: (New line : Enter)
login anonymous
force_install_dir ./whatever_sub_folder/
app_update 205

For Linux you might have to use 204 instead of 205. Use this list.

After downloading everything, go to your folder in which you installed the server to (whatever_sub_folder). You can now throw your clean install of ZM in there.

One more thing:

In your srcds.exe folder, remove files steamclient.dll, tier0_s.dll and vstdlib_s.dll. The file steam.dll will now be the only dll file in that folder.

Finally, add these commands to your server.cfg (zombie_master/cfg):
Code:
sv_master_legacy_mode 0
setmaster add hl2master.steampowered.com:27011
setmaster add hl2master.steampowered.com:27015

This will fix the "Your version does not match the server's. Please restart the game."-error and still let people see your server without using an older version of srcds.

UPDATE:  Scratch all this, my ports weren't forwarded!

Even with your guide, which was extremely helpful Mehis, I'm still having troubles getting the server to show on the list.  I looked up some other people's fixes with no luck:

//Server Listing Options
sv_lan 0
sv_region 255
sv_master_legacy_mode 0
heartbeat
sv_master_legacy_mode 1
heartbeat

----and I also tried:

sv_master_legacy_mode 0
setmaster remove hl2master.steampowered.com:27011
setmaster remove hl2master.steampowered.com:27015
setmaster add hl2master.steampowered.com:27011
setmaster add hl2master.steampowered.com:27015
heartbeat
