So who is excited about "The Pacific"?
Miniseries on HBO by the same people who made Band Of Brothers. Comes out March 16th.
I'm pants shittingly excited about it. All the flair of Saving Private Ryan and Band Of Brothers in the Pacific Theater? FUCK YES, BANZAI SWORD CHARGES AND ZERO FIGHTER KAMAKAZIS HELL YES.

Well Avatar didn't win best picture, which mean that various movie executives will live to fuck up a directors vision and ruin the films that they make.
Now if you will excuse me I have a flight to catch to Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois in France to go drink vodka over Tarkovsky's grave and cry on the inside over the death of cinematic art and my inability to change that.

I don't know about dead, but it certainly seems to be moving in a different direction. Tarvosky's stuff is probably some of the best stuff to ever get put on film though.
If avatar had had substance and a fantastic story to go along with it, I don't think these cries of "ART IS DEAD" would be so prevalent

Anyway I'm immensely pleased Avatar didn't win any "big" awards, but still won for the category it really did deserve: best special effects. no contest it was a visually impressive movie.
but yeah, the story was pretty throwaway as was a few other aspects and i'm amazed it garnered as much praise as it did.

Shutup, I'm not sure you're up to speed on how cause and effect (or even basic logic) works. Avatar was an unoriginal, ego-fueled, money-based, mass-appeal machine embodying arguably the farthest thing from art in the film industry. If it won, it would both signify the death of creativity over money and influence executives to push mass appeal over art. But Avatar didn't win, the less money and more creativity-based The Hurt Locker won.
