In other news

Jagged Alliance Back in action came out the other day, as you probably saw on the Steam store.

It's a recreation of 2. Main thing is is (poor) modernized modeling and a "Plan and go" style of system instead of AP, where you plan out your stuff and do them instead of the 'You have X action points a turn'.

Apparently the entire game is a pile of "Eh".

I already played 8 hours today and I would really not call it a pile of "Eh".

The game is pretty great though it has some flaws (mostly: bad inventory management).
The "Plan & Go" system works surprisingly well and fluid ingame and the battles are very challenging, even though there is no fog of war. I had high doubts if the game would be any good but it's really fun once you get used to the Plan & Go system.

Only then did the elves begin to suspect that the dwarves were not bringing any Amontillado.

it's a kalypso game, all of them are mediocre to just ok.

So she just lays on her back and shatters the zombie's skull with a 50 caliber newborn baby.

Huge fan of JA series. Completed the original and played quite a lot of JA2. I would compare it with X-COM series. You do have base management elements in JA2 at least.

The faster they fester the quicker they muster.

Looks like we're getting a new Amnesia, possibly placed in China from the looks of it. http://nextfrictionalgame.com/ http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/02/10/frictional-teases-next-amnesia/

Amnesia's the only game that's made me have to save and quit at times not because I wanted or had to do something else, but because my heart simply couldn't take any more fear, I couldn't handle any more so I had to quit. No other game's made me have to do that.

In other-other news

Wargame: European Escalation has a dumb name.

But it's a cool game.

This is actually a very interesting little gem of a game. It takes what RUSE was, a somewhat gimmicky, marcro-heavy game and makes it all the more better while also going for a cold war unit selection. And there are a lot of units. And they're all different!

You make a "deck" for NATO/Pact armies and then you buy your armies in the actual game based off of what's in the deck. You buy your main army in the beginning and you get reinforcement points to buy more units over time, though you're main force is what comes at the start. Lots of combined arms good-ness; Infantry are suprisingly good, tanks roll over things and helicopters make short work of people without any anti-air around.

If you played RUSE and you happened to like the non-gimmicky-ruse part of it, you might enjoy this. There are plenty of videos around already. It's currently in a "Preorder the game and play the multiplayer beta"-beta and it, annoyingly, kinda tosses you in without a tutorial at the moment. It is, though, pretty simple to control.

It's a Ubisoft game right? Any words about the DRM?

It's not, actually. RUSE was published by Ubi', but not this one. No DRM outside of the usual CD-key.

So, Dear Esther was released. It looks stunningly beautiful for being on the Source Engine, but, considering it's just a remastered version of the mod, I don't know if I'm willing to pay $10 for it.

Jagged Alliance Online is in open beta now! Contrary to JA BiA, this still is turnbased.

I was in the closed beta and did not like it that much, though I must admit that I have not played it for long.
JA BiA is better imo.
