Me and some of my buddies are going to attempt to put together an Indie game(sometimes) and I'm personally stumped on ideas/concepts. Anyone have anything they would like to see in an Indie Game? OR tips on how to make the gameplay fun?

Simple.

Think of something that would be fun.

Make that.

Well, some of my personal turn-ons for video games are:

semi-sandbox worlds like Just Cause 2, but not as intricate as Garrysmod

Simple controls that can become deadly when used correctly

Ability to shape the storyline based on what you do

A minimalistic amount of bugs.

I've got plenty. it's for the wii. You are a psychic. everyone else on earth is psychic. It's the result of prolonged drug use after the American government legalized every drug known to man under president Frank "let it go, man" Harris. In your everyday life, you have to interact psychically with your high school buddies, trying to fend off inquisitive "friend of your ex girlfriend's cousin's friend" who want to know exactly why you broke up with her, teachers who want to know if you're lying or not, and parents when they want to know about your failing grade in AP Bio. Basically, you move the wiimote to a specific section of the screen to "deflect" mental rays, and you use various other motions to keep invasive minds away from your personal shit. The main plotline is "you go to a normal school, and your boring life wuill get played by you until this big thing happens" and the big thing is your parents start to get a divorce and you have to find out thier inner secrets that are totally akward to try to get your parents to stay together, while your "friends" at highschool all of a sudden turn on you because they're hungry for drama.

Well, I think a type of game would be better for starting off, for instance, do you have a theme in mind?  Is it a Shooter/Platformer/RPG/RTS?

Make a zombie game. Either an RTS where you control the zombies to take over the world, or a zombie survival game where you have a city you must explore to find resources, survivors, and shelter.

Both of these would be fairly difficult, though.

my game keeps crashing as it loads, (i have all the expansion packs including the apartment life) and i am hearing that it might possibly be a custom content problem? how do i remove custom content?

Those chainsaws are rocket-propelled, correct?

If so then I must agree with pastor.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea. I don't think there has been a truly furry game since starfox adventures

Make an indie game about the Australian experience.

One of my favorite ways to generate ideas is to sit down with a buddy or two and make a list of all the awesome shit you can think of. For example, one of my lists:

Quote
Dinosaurs
Assassins
Hand-cranked gatling gun
Anarcho-capitalism
Piano-wire garrotte
Mountebanks & Charlatans
Rasputin
Oriental mysticism (monkey eyeballs)
Those soldiers from Jin-Roh
flammenwaffers
WWII (Axis specifically)
WWI
Gas masks
Chemical and biological warfare
Words with warfare
terrorism (non-muslim)
burrowing vehicles
mega-corporations
privately funded militaries
counter-terrorism
serial awesome
insane people (violent)
engineered soldiers
robo-(all of the above)
civil wars
genocide
drug economies
corruption
supernatural & occult
space horror
cosmonauts
esoteric time-travel
apocalypse (pre-/post-)
oppression
revolution
conspiracy
over-engineered guns
improvised weapons
over-under shotguns
massive-inefficiency (fuel waste)
coal/steam power
(steam/cyber)punk
lawless prisons
gladiators/gladiatorialcombat
widespread destitution
caste systems
artillery
firebombings
warlords
broken politics
balkanization
alternate history
hacking where it can fry your brain if you fuck up
bounty hunters
kill trophy
people hunters
decay
"widowmaker"
mercenaries
tombs/crypts
stitching monsters togethers
16th century alchemy/witchcraft
running blood
aztecs
aztec sacrifice
whaling
modern pirates
airships (zeppelins)
torture
unexplored hostile wilderness (deep jungle)
landmines
cluster bombs
unexploded ordinance
revolvers/revolvings
horses + guns
horses + gas masks
fucked up biology
technological anachronisms
jeweler's glasses/sam fischer goggles/anachronistic
aether or anything with (ae) (luminiferous aether)
plague doctors (plague doctor masks)
botched/improper/medieval surgery/science
biles
phrenology
backwards science
trepanning
alien archeology
19th century gangs
machiavelli
weird currencies (teeth, bottlecaps)
manmade disasters
destruction of primitive cultures for resources (americas)
prohibition/1920s gangsters
paranoia/schizophrenia
manipulation
"The Ancients"
mythology
electricity through tubes
psychic powers with backlash (psykers, akira)
mutation
sacrifice
burial grounds
hallucinogens (jacob's ladder)
battle drugs
alien infestation
symbiotic organisms/infections/parasites
eyeless creatures
fucked up joints
ICBMs
baron
Dune
war experiments

Then start combining them at random or however they catch your eye to generate an interesting setting. Make a few of these, then start thinking of interesting game hooks. Tadaa, instant game concept.

For example:
The player is part of a terrorist/resistance group set in a far, dystopic future continually ravaged by plagues and ruled by an elite caste of plague doctors (borrow heavily from medieval design here). Only the player and his resistance group, however, know that the plagues are genetically engineered by the ruling caste simply to perpetuate their power.

They must hack into the enormous, monolithic computer system that regulates the citizens' lives, but hacking doesn't work the way it does today - shortly before death, peoples' minds are uploaded into the enormous mainframe. The hackers must both use and fight these "spirits," traversing the dark and twisted metaverse of the computer where a single mistake can mean a fried technician, left forever mindless, in order to oust this perverse techno-dictatorship and lead the populace to revolution.

The gameplay hook would be an interesting puzzle game which represents hacking that adds squad management (like a simplified X-COM style, perhaps), some light RPG mechanics (different traits improve for different hackers, new powers are unlocked, "spirit" evocation, etc.) and perhaps even some turn-based strategic elements (what areas do you shut down the CCTVs in, where do you redirect the police force to, etc. with the goal of liberating areas as well as following the main plotline of the conspiracy. Each task has an associated puzzle) all within a reasonably interesting/unique game world with a plot that has interesting possibilities.

It's a little contrived and confusing, but that's because I tried to put a bunch of ideas together (hacking, plagues, genetic engineering, plague doctors, dystopias, etc.) and I also literally typed as ideas came to me. So it took me all of 10 minutes - you can easily do much more with 45 minutes and a few friends.

Also, there are many other gamepaly styles that sort of setting could take, of course - this is just the first one I came up with that's feasible to make by new/indie devs.

A successor to Uplink. If you keep that game's graphic-less interface, it'll be light on graphics assets, allowing you to focus on coding and gameplay.
