Okay so I'm going to take a whack at a realistic outside map.  It will be my harder challenge because of skyboxes and shitty tree models.  

SCAVENGE -

Reason for the name is because you have to look for :

Guns
Ammo
Barricade items
(possibly food)

THE BUILD PHASE HAS BEGUN.

That's right.  You have to build a fort.  You spawn at the base where there's three locations to build forts.  You have approximately 5 minutes to scavenge for the items listed above.  You have to search through an abandon neighborhood after the infection broke loose.  There will be a medium sized neighborhood (Around 10-15 houses) and one mansion.  30% of all barricade items will come from the mansion, and a good portion of weapons are stashed there too.

(edit) You now spawn in the forest.  You have to walk for about a minute.  Watch out though, there will be creepers in the forest willing to pull you in deeper with no turning back.  Don't get left behind either.  If you're stranded alone, the darkness will get you.  You will have an assigned floodlight to carry around and if you get seperated from your team, there's a good possibility you'll be left in the darkness.

Watch for the Zombie Master.  Although (s)he cannot spawn ANY zombies until the combat phase, (s)he CAN use traps to kill survivors.  There are scattered traps through the neighborhood, so be weary.

Once you've scavenged your items, bring the back to the base where you will set up your barricade.  Since there's three bases (all close to each other with their OWN design) you can either team up with everyone at one base, or choose another and do your own thing.  

After 5 minutes, any item in the outlined sections of your base will be LOCKED and the only way to move them is zombies or destroying them.  (so, the zombie master CANNOT use explosions effectively here) Also if you're left out in the neighborhood and you're not at the base, a vapor will seek your heart and kill you.

EDIT - About food.  You've been traveling through dense forests with your friends and you're getting hungry.  As a side objective, you should find food so you don't black out.  If you find food, bring them back to your base and your screen can't fade in and out at times.  If you don't bring any food back, your screen can black out for 10-15 seconds.


THE COMBAT PHASE HAS BEGUN.

Survive for five minutes.  I understand survive maps are BORING but I think the build phase can give some flare to a boring old survive map.  

The zombie master can capture points with zombies to gain closer access to zombie spawns.  If all of his/her zombies come in your base, your base is BLOWN TO SMITHERINES.

Also I'm going to include multiple traps during the combat phase such as cars flying through one random base and explosions throughout areas with generators.

Well, finally you're making a REAL map xD
5 minutes sounds a little long to me, but the rest sounds neat.

Sounds like a good basis for a map, but yeah, 5 minutes is the very maximum for a defence objective. But you're right, defence maps with a unique aspect tend to do better than those without.

Is this the map with the day/night loop?

It sounds like its gonna be a big detailed map. I wish you the best of luck!

No.  I'm currently creating another map.  I will eventually get this completed though.
